The Malay Host

Today was a tiring day for Andrew (although the tire was of his own doing). He was in Batu Caves for a photoshooting, of which it is done at the residence of the main guy - the Chef who was commissioned to cook for the job. He was a great Malay gentleman.

Andrew had always liked to enjoy being a guest to a Malay host. They have always been known for their incredible hospitality towards any guests regardless of race and religion. They treat you like a royalty even though they might not have met you ever before. Today was no different.

The chef himself was a cool guy, even for someone his age (and his food setting - great!). It has been quite some years since I have visited a Malay family and this is a very refreshing start, it truly made me feel that we are really living in a harmonious multi-racial country after all.

Some of my friends are not very fond of them, all I can say is that they lack the understanding of a true orang Melayu because as far as I know they are one of the friendliest people in Malaysia. Also to note the fact that the younger, urban breed Malay youngsters who have no respect for their own culture - they mix with their own group and are very hostile towards anyone else, even of their own race.

If thats what you think of the orang Melayu - you probably just met the black sheep of a very big herd of pure whites.

Blanklou in Singapore

Yes. Andrew is in Singapore for the past... day and will be leaving like the next day.

Which might not be a bad thing for him. Mostly because
  • He forgot to set roaming options for his mobile
  • He did not bring over his laptop
  • He had jobs undone
  • His aunt did not had broadband (although it is posted in spore it is done old skool - dailup)
  • No kaki and car to bring him clubbing
  • No idea where to club
  • No ciggeretes
  • Ciggeretes are EXPENSIVE
  • Everyone is either speaking Mandarin, English or Hokkien. Cantonese is hard to come by
  • TV shows are dubbed in Mandarin

Its fun though. The last time he was here was like over 5 years ago and he did not had a chance to be running around shopping and checking out chicks. Turns out this place is very organized, too organized for his liking, but he might get used to this place though. It seemed that he likes it.

The only problem would be that everywhere seemed to be a no smoking area. Andrew smokes you know. Not a compulsive one but he might crave for a stick or two sometimes. Might be a good place for him to start quittin.

Andrew wants to go Cafe del mar. Its in Santosa Island and its far away. Anyone wants to bring him there?

Andrewic Idea 0001

Days aren't treating Andrew very well, it has been bad news daily for the past week, but things are finally getting better.

Too good that it is a bit scary in fact.

During a recent trip home from KL, he encountered five traffic lights - ALL of them were green. Andrew is afraid of being lucky, 'cause every time it does, it means something bad is coming his way.

Anyway, he is very looking for his next paycheck because he is going on a major shopping spree.

Speaking of which, he believes that marketing is EVERYTHING, so much so that you need to know how to sell yourself to be able to be successful. And there are so many jobs out there that requires you to sell yourself very well, and a lot of people working such jobs never notices this. One such industry would be the begging industry.

Andrew would like to propose a revolution in the begging industry to be more creative in their begging strategies apart from that usual begging in the torn clothes and broken mug (they got creative by getting grandmothers to act as if their child dump them in the supermarket selling pens and stuff). It is getting boring and people are not buying these strategies anymore. You guys need to sell yourselves better! Be the top of the industry!

To struggling beggars, Andrew had the best idea that would most probably help you, at least for the month of December - when everyone is getting their bonuses.

Since Christmas is coming, you could always beg in one of these:

a Christmas stocking

And err, get a bigger one with a bigger opening (so its easier for people to put money in). These would work better if you are begging outside a church, with all the Christmas spirit going about. You could always apply this on other celebrations like angpows for Chinese New Year and green packets for Hari Raya. Make sure it is a oversized packet though (so you can store more coins and get more attention).

Better still, get a t-shirt saying "Would love some spare change for Christmas".

And this time, try to invest your earnings - you might get rich begging. Comment me if it works, ya.

Limpeh Shee Penang-lang!

You know, Andrew do not travel much but somehow it seems here that he is. Truth is the furthest he'd travel normally wouldn't go anywhere beyond the nearest mamak stall. Trust me. His existence is far too important here to be traveling elsewhere.

to the left would be Andrew Tay, Juno to the right.

However, in recent months he has been traveling alot for work, where is latest destination would be the Penang island. By driving a car less than 3 days-old. Neat eh?

Andrew is supposed to post this last week when he is still in Penang. But it seems that he couldn't find a chance to have his laptop with him when he's on wifi hotspots.

Penang is a nice place, Andrew and his colleagues drove around the entire day with a map in-hand - because they have never driven in the city before. The entire place felt kinda like Malacca, only much bigger (and much more things to eat). For the food, we were told of one important teaching: thou shall eat only at street stalls. thou shall not eat at fancy restaurants.

Andrew did not get a chance to be photographing everything he sees partly because he is almost driving all the time, and because his camera his not functioning *sigh* He however manages to capture several images using his mobile, although he is not very proud of them.

Most of the images here are taken at the kek lok si temple. Andrew did not manage to get to much places due to time constrains. He would very much like to visit the toy museum. Lots of Starwars toys in there, and Ultraman too.

Andrew is kinda glad that he's back. All the while in Penang all he speak is Mandarin and Hokkien; and after so many years of speaking Cantonese and English - its kinda wierd speaking the former.

thats all for now.

ps. Penang chicks are cute, even if you rule the lala/ah lians out.

Calling from the Dark Side

Andrew was in 1utama today for lunch and on his way back felt a deep calling drawing him into a toy store where he saw:

Darth Vader. But as you can see it's a bit different from your standard Darth Vader.

It transforms into the Death Star. It TRANSFORMS!

This is too good not to be overwhelmed. It is going to top his wish-list for Christmas. Anyone willing to get one for him? He is willing to trade his butt for one even!

... maybe not. Still, it's a Man's Dream!

Yes Andrew is a GEEK. *breathes darth vader-style*

The Malaccan Trip II

Like Andrew previously said. He was in Malacca for a cocktail photo shoot. He was not the photographer thou, photographer would be BoonBoonBoon (or Boon in short, shy guy actually). Andrew is merely the editor a.k.a. the-one-who-runs-around-doing-nothing and MONITORING the work progress.

As you can see, it's a very cocktail-ic night that day.

Did Andrew mention what's the photo shoot for? The images taken are to be used on an upcoming magazine. The premier issue is supposed feature cocktail recipes and a brief introduction into hosting a cocktail party.

contrary to popular beliefs, the orange colored
drink is actually plain simple orange juice meant
to be drank with the green drink.

Anyway, while Malacca is a nice place and all; with all the nice buildings and great people. There is one other thing only few will ever experience, and Andrew experienced it slightly.

One of Boon's assistant had this loud, trembling snore that is sure to scare the shit out of anyone if taken by surprise. It's so powerful that it sounded like the entire Roman Empire had them surrounded. Really! Boon also said that he felt "uncomfortable" in the hotel room over certain things. Actually all of them did, they suspect it might be... you know.

You know, Andrew is getting kinda tired writing as a third person. But he's enjoying it. And next time he might write something about the cocktail house that provided the cocktails, if he feels like it. Otherwise he might just give you the bloody address and you go find them yourself.

Till next time.

The Malaccan Trip

Andrew was in Malacca the other day.

For work actually, he followed a team of photographers to take photos.

Not these though. These are just the images he took for fun during the morning walks around Jonker's Street.

Our assignment was to take images of 60 different cocktails for his upcoming magazine. Images on the cocktails he will post later. He has yet to do editings on the images.

Malacca was a very fun place to be in, buildings are nice and people are great! Not to mention food! He had so much fun he forgot to take images of the food he ate around =.= Anyway he just wanted to show off some of the images he so basically this will be all.

Till next time.

Prelude of the Andrewism Movement

Andrewism
Better known as Andrewtayism, it is a movement of the fingers of Andrew Tay on to a keyboard to create a revolutionary digital journal (Blog).

Why revolutionary?

Because Andrew Tay wrote it. Which would be me.
